Delicious ways to stay hydrated

21 October, 2024

Staying hydrated during Australia’s warmer months is essential for your energy, digestion, and overall well-being. Here are five fun ways to keep your hydration on point this summer.

Do you find it challenging to drink enough water each day? Staying hydrated is essential for our health all year round, but it’s especially important during Australia’s warmer months when dehydration can happen more quickly than you might realise. Proper hydration keeps your body functioning at its best, helping to support energy, digestion and overall well being, so it’s important to make it a priority every day.

Dehydration occurs when the fluid we lose, whether through sweat, urine, diarrhoea, vomiting, or even tears, exceeds the fluid we take in. Other influences like diet, climate and physical activity can further increase fluid loss. If you’re drinking plenty of water everyday but are still feeling thirsty or dehydrated, this could be an indicator of an underlying issue. Medications like diuretics or certain blood pressure drugs can also affect your body’s fluid balance. It's important to take a holistic approach by considering all avenues of dietary, lifestyle and environment factors when identifying the cause of dehydration.

When you feel thirsty, you’re already mildly dehydrated. The best way to stay on top of hydration this summer is to drink before you get thirsty.

5 fun ways to stay hydrated this summer

  1. Celery Juice

Celery juice is made up of 95% water, making it the perfect choice for staying hydrated. It’s also packed with electrolytes like potassium and sodium, which help keep your body’s fluid levels balanced. Electrolytes are especially important during summer when you lose fluids through sweat - they help your muscles function properly and keep you hydrated.

To make your celery juice last longer, try freezing it in ice cube trays and adding a cube to your water for a slow-release boost of hydration. Or, if you prefer a milder flavour, pour a shot of celery juice into a glass of water to dilute the taste while still getting all the benefits.

  2. Goodness Greens Juice Pack

This juice pack includes three refreshing blends: Joy, Balance, and Radiant. Each one is packed with hydrating ingredients like kale, cucumber, lettuce, spinach, apple, and celery - all veggies that contain between 85–95% of water! Not only do these juices give you a natural hydration boost, but they’re also rich in electrolytes. By combining kale, cucumber, spinach, and celery, you’re getting essential nutrients like potassium, magnesium and sodium, which help keep your body balanced and hydrated.

  3. Enlighten Herbal Tea

Our Enlighten herbal tea is a gentle detoxifier that can be enjoyed both hot or iced. With sweet, floral notes from licorice root, rose, and calendula petals, it’s a delicious way to boost your water intake throughout the day. With a hot week ahead, why not prepare a refreshing iced version? Simply boil water, pour it over 5-7 servings of the herbal blend, strain and add the tea to a large jug of water. Keep it in the fridge for a chilled, hydrating glass each day! Just remember, these herbs are designed to detox, so they may have mild diuretic effects.

  4. Organic Cacao Blend

Who said cacao could only be enjoyed hot during winter? We can’t get enough of our cacao blend as a light and healthy “iced chocolate” version. For a single serving, simply pour boiling water over 2 teaspoons of Organic Cacao Blend and mix well. Pour the cacao mixture in a tall glass with ice, pour in coconut milk and stir well. Plus, coconut milk brings a boost of electrolytes like potassium and magnesium, along with smaller amounts of sodium and calcium, helping to keep your fluid levels balanced.

  5. Organic Turmeric Blend

Much like the Cacao blend, our Turmeric latte is just as versatile! This can be enjoyed hot or iced and even batch prepped for the week ahead. For a single serving, boil water over 2 teaspoons of the Organic Turmeric Blend and mix well. Pour turmeric mixture in a tall glass with ice, pour in coconut milk and stir well. If you want to enjoy it throughout the week, just multiply the recipe and store it in a large glass jar in the fridge - ready for a refreshing turmeric boost anytime!
