Boost your results: What to eat after you cleanse

Planning your approach to the post-cleanse transition phase allows you to optimise the benefits of your cleanse and helps maintain healthy habits.

Upon completing an organic juice cleanse, it is only natural to gravitate towards nourishing foods that align with your desire for optimal health. During this time, it's important to consider which foods will further enhance the results of your cleanse, sustain your healthy eating habits, and promote overall well-being.

Transitioning from a cleanse back to your regular routine requires thoughtful planning to avoid reverting to old habits. To assist you in this process we’ve outlined some helpful tips to ensure a smooth transition while preserving the benefits you gained from your cleansing journey.

1. Prioritise whole foods.

While processed and refined foods may be convenient, they lack the abundant nutrients that truly benefit your body. Transitioning back to your normal diet after a juice cleanse is best achieved by embracing whole foods including fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, antibiotic and hormone-free meat and poultry, eggs, minimally processed dairy, legumes, nuts and seeds. 2. Eat intuitively

The most powerful way to change your diet is when your relationship to how you feel is stronger than the desire for the food. Be mindful of your body's response to different foods as you reintroduce them, one by one such as gluten, eggs and dairy, which are triggers for some people's digestive distress. By having a clean slate after your cleanse you will be able to be more aware of any foods that cause you discomfort and those that energise you (yes you may even be craving salads!)

3. Embrace fruit and vegetables

Aim to incorporate two servings of fruit and five or more servings of vegetables into your daily meals. This ensures your post cleanse diet remains colourful and nutrient dense, and unlike whilst cleansing provides ample beneficial fibre. The fibre in fruits and veggies such as carrots, apples, broccoli, and kiwi ensure proper digestion and keeps your bowels moving smoothly after your cleanse.

4. Stay hydrated

Maintaining proper hydration is crucial for improved digestion and the overall well-being of your body. Consume ample amounts of water aiming for 2L -3L per day which can include hot water with lemon, juices and herbal teas. It helps combat unnecessary eating when we are actually dehydrated, and prevents headaches and mental fatigue which can be a trigger for us to fall back into old habits.

5. Include healthy fats

Incorporating healthy fats into your diet is beneficial and can leave you feeling satisfied after your cleanse. Healthy fats like those found in avocados, olives, nuts, tofu, and tahini contribute to the positive effects of your cleanse by keeping you full between meals, providing sustained energy and helping the body to absorb fat soluble vitamins from your meals.

6. Be mindful of your sugar intake

Refined sugars can cause havoc on your digestion and energy levels through blood sugar dysregulation, which can make the transition back to foods more difficult and result in more cravings. To ease the process, steer clear of processed foods and beverages with added sugar, opting instead for natural sugars found in fruits or honey.

6. Take a break from coffee & alcohol

During the past few days, your liver has been diligently detoxifying your body. Allow it to rest by waiting at least a week before reintroducing alcohol or caffeine into your diet. If you plan to reintroduce these into your regular lifestyle, start slow and be mindful of the effects to your body.
