DIY Breakfast Bowl

01 February, 2022

Our guide to crafting the perfect granola breakfast bowl! The goal? To transform a simple breakfast into a personalised masterpiece that dances with flavours tailored just for you.

Elevating breakfast beyond the mundane milk and ceral routine of the past, we can now construct layers of deliciousness in every bite. Below, we present a framework for a granola breakfast bowl, encouraging creativity to tailor it to your preferences and available ingredients.

The Foundations

Fruit + Yoghurt + Granola + Toppings

Fruit

The beauty of fruit lies in its universally delightful taste, allowing for endless experimentation with various combinations based on availability, seasonality, and personal preferences. Fruits we love in a breakfast bowl:

  • Raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Banana
  • Mango
  • Pineapple
  • Kiwifruit
  • Papaya

Yoghurt

With an abundance of yogurt options catering to diverse tastes and dietary needs, it serves as a delicious vehicle for introducing probiotics to your diet.

Dairy: Opt for high-quality dairy yogurts, preferably organic, for added protein. Natural yoghurt is recommended, as the fruit's sweetness eliminates the need for additional sugar. If desired, customise sweetness with honey or maple syrup.

Coconut: Currently our preferred choice for pairing with granola breakfast bowls, providing a light and delightful coconut flavour. We recommend an organic, unsweetened option.

Cashew/Almond: Explore alternative "nut yoghurt" options available on supermarket shelves for a unique taste experience.

Granola

Not all granolas are equal, and crafting your own can be a simple, cost-effective, and delicious endeavour. See one of our favourite recipes here. Exercise caution with store-bought varieties, often laden with excessive sugar. Opt for granolas with quality ingredients, avoiding those dominated by rice puffs or wheat sticks. Toasted granola is our preference for this bowl, although un-toasted muesli works well too.

Toppings

The pinnacle of creativity lies in the toppings, transforming your granola bowl from merely delicious to sensational, both in taste and nutrition. Consider trying:

  • Cacao nibs
  • A drizzle of tahini
  • Hemp seeds
  • Orange zest
  • Flaxseeds
  • Goji berries
  • Cranberries
  • A drizzle of honey or maple syrup
  • Crushed nuts
  • Chia seeds
  • Berry coulis
  • Shredded coconut
